Schechter Immigration Law was founded on the premise of providing high quality legal representation with a focus on excellent client service and individualized attention. It is our objective to provide the best representation possible in helping our clients achieve their immigration goals in a fast and effective manner.
Our firm has significant experience in assisting clients in entering the United States after prior refusals. We also have expertise in preparing and submitting all nonimmigrant employment visas including the TN, L-1A and L-1B, E-1 and E-2, H-1B, J-1, O-1 and P, and R-1 visas as well as waiver petitions and immigrant EB-1, EB-2, EB-3, EB-4 and EB-5 petitions, including PERM petitions filed for individuals applying in the EB-2 and EB-3 categories. The firm regularly represents clients in a variety of industries and disciplines including entertainment and the arts, information technology, manufacturing, engineering, architecture, medicine, financial/accounting and many others.
Schechter Immigration Law is also highly experienced in handling family immigration matters including fiancé visas, spousal, other family sponsorships, and Child Status Protection Act (CSPA) issues processed through the U.S. Consulates worldwide or through the adjustment of status process in the United States.
Many people have claims to U.S. citizenship through parents. The firm helps individuals determine whether U.S. citizenship was transmitted through a parent, and file appropriate petitions to obtain proof of U.S. citizenship for children of U.S. citizens. The firm also helps permanent residents become United States citizens through the naturalization process.
The firm assists individuals and businesses from every corner of the earth, including Canada, Mexico, China, India, Western and Eastern European countries, Australia, Latin American countries, and the Middle-East. We regularly work with a number of U.S. government agencies including: United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the State Department and its consular posts throughout the world, and the Department of Labor.
Marla Schechter, Esq.
Marla E. Schechter has been practicing U.S. immigration and citizenship law for over 20 years. She is determined to obtain excellent results in every case, and thus only takes on cases she is confident will be approved.
Ms. Schechter works exclusively in the areas of business and family immigration, but also assists clients in obtaining provisional and extreme hardship waivers as well as nonimmigrant waivers. Prior to practicing U.S. immigration law, Marla practiced in the areas of criminal and corporate law, and thus is very familiar with immigration matters as they relate to complex criminal and business issues.
Ms. Schechter has been an attorney since 1989. A graduate of both the University of California at Berkeley as well as the Duke University School of Law, Ms. Schechter holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration, as well as both a J.D. in Law and an LL.M in Foreign and International Law, and is admitted to practice law in the State of California. Ms. Schechter is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
Although Ms. Schechter was born and educated in the United States, she resided in Toronto, Canada for a period of 11 years. As a Foreign Legal Consultant registered with the Law Society of Upper Canada, she assisted Canadians from across the country with their U.S. immigration needs. She consequently developed significant expertise with North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) visas and specialized NAFTA border-processing procedures for Canadians. Canadian nationals and Canadian companies continue to constitute over 50% of her practice’s clientele. She speaks to Customs and Border Protection officers at the U.S.- Canadian border regularly, and frequently communicates with the U.S. Consulates in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa and Calgary. As a result of her time spent in Canada, she knows which border crossings are worth travelling to and which must be avoided at all costs.
